The Irony of the Invasion
The irony of the matter is that the misfits' acts on the Capitol had the opposite impact of what they wanted. Instead of expressing their displeasure, the invasion caused massive destruction and harm to the United States. It resulted in the deaths of five persons, including a Capitol Police Officer. It harmed America's reputation in the eyes of the world, as other nations looked on in dismay at the country's instability. It also further split a nation that was already severely divided. It was ironic that those attempting to make a message against Joe Biden's candidacy were ultimately causing greater damage to the country.
The title of the book
The title of Draper's book, "Weapons of Mass Delusion," is a sarcastic play on the search for non-existent weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. This irony is twofold. First, the phrase "weapons of mass destruction" was frequently used to allude to the perceived danger posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq, which was ultimately revealed to be baseless. Second, the book itself is about a different "weapon of mass destruction," one that is not physical, but political - mass illusion. This widespread hallucination holds that Donald Trump won the 2020 US Presidential Election and that Joe Biden and his followers "stole" it from him. This false narrative is a weapon of mass destruction because it has been used to stir up fear and hatred among many Americans, leading to riots, violence, and political division.
The irony of the stolen election
The misfits were attempting to disrupt the political process in order to affirm Biden's victory, even though they claimed the election had been stolen from Donald Trump. This is hilarious because they were attempting to overturn the election outcome and declare Trump as the rightful winner by using the same democratic process they claimed was rigged against Trump. In doing so, they were attempting to undermine and discredit the very democratic process that they said was rigged against Trump.
