Weapons of Mass Delusion Imagery

The January 6th Invasion

The January 6th invasion into the U.S. Capitol is one of the most important images in Weapons of Mass Delusion. The delusion in the Republican party reached a fever pitch, Draper argues, when there was an incursion and invasion into the U.S. capitol by angry Trump supporters who didn't believe that the former President lost the election to Joe Biden. January 6th illuminates the delusion of the Republican party, in other words.

Election denial

As Republican candidates lost more elections, imagery (and rhetoric) surrounding election denialism becomes more and more common. As Republican candidates realized the truth, in other words, they did the opposite: they denied the election.

Democracy and Republicanism

As people inside and outside government fought for Democracy and against those who sought to overturn an election, imagery surrounding Democracy and Republics like the U.S. flag and the Constitution of the U.S. become more prevalent. The U.S. flag and Constitution, after all, are symbolic of Democracy and Republicanism (the U.S. is structured as a Republic, though some refer to the U.S. as being a democracy).
