Wayside School is Falling Down

Wayside School is Falling Down Analysis

Wayside School is Falling Down is the second book in author Louis Sachar's critically-acclaimed and financially successful Wayside School series. Again set in the Wayside School, the novel tells the story of the students and teachers who spend time in the school.

Interestingly, it took Sachar nearly eleven years to finish and publish Wayside School is Falling Down after the series' first book, Sideways Stories from Wayside School was released. Although Sachar worked at a college during school, he drew very little on his personal experiences when writing any of his novels. "My personal experiences," Sachar said ,"are kind of boring. I have to make up what I put in my books."

To that end, Sachar wanted to create a book which was whimsical and funny that would entertain adults and children alike. With Wayside School is Falling Down, he accomplished that. While this novel also has a number of important themes and messages, perhaps its biggest accomplishment is that it has entertained people of all ages for over twenty years.
