Describe Serebryakov’s characterization so far.
Professor Serebryakov is overwhelmingly self-pitying, and feels he is wiser than those around him. He's obsessively preoccupied with his health, and resents Helena for her youth and health, as in the following quote: “I am not an idiot; I can understand you. You are young and healthy and beautiful, and longing for life, and I am an old man, almost a corpse already. Don't I know it? Of course I see that it is foolish for me to live so long, but wait!
