Runciter Associates is an organization that employs people who can neutralize the powers of telepaths. Glen Runciter, the organization’s boss receives a call informing him that one of his employees, S. Dole Melipone has disappeared. Ray Hollis has been working hard to bring the company down. Meanwhile, Runciter’s wife, Ella, who is in a state of half-life is consulted by Glen constantly. One day, Glen discovers that Ella’s body has been invaded by Jory. Following the incident, Glen complains to the manager of the Moratorium. However, the manager claims he has no power to contain Jory.
Joe Chip, an employee of a company, is surprised by G.G Ashwood one morning when he comes with a psychic called Pat Conley. Joe Chip takes Conley to meet Glen Runciter but warns him to be cautious of her. In the meantime, gets a contract from Stanton Mick, a corporate boss who wants to secure his lunar facilities. Runciter and his employees travel to Mick’s moon headquarters. However, a bomb explodes killing Glen instantly. The employees take his body to a half-life facility. Following the explosion, the survivors start experiencing the shift of time and reality.
Later, it is discovered that Conley was all along working for Ray Hollis. Joe is in a hotel room where he witnesses one of the psychics, Wendy, dying. Conley visits Joe in the hotel and offers to escort him to his room. This time he starts feeling feeble and frail. Conley leaves him to die but surprisingly Runciter comes to his rescue. Runciter sprays him with Ubik to regain his consciousness. Runciter reveals to him that they are all in the state of half-life.
