Glen Runciter
Runciter is one of the protagonists in the narrative. After his body organs started failing due to old age, Runciter employed artificial organ implants. Despite his old age, he appears as a young man in his thirties. His company, Runciter Associates employs anti-telepaths. Runciter adores his wife Ella and despite her death, he still consults her on important company decisions. Ella appears in half-life.
Joe Chip
Chip is also a protagonist in the story. He works as a technician at Runciter Associates: his job is to test possible anti-telepath abilities. Despite his large paycheck, Chip has no money since he spends most of it on pharmaceutical machines. After surviving the explosion in Luna, Chip assumes his new role as director of Runciter Associates. At first, his colleagues doubt his ability to lead but with time, chip earns their respect and trust.
Jory
Jory is the antagonist in the book. Initially, Jory appears as Don Denny but after spraying Ubik he transforms into Jory who is revealed to be behind all the misdeeds. Being young and a half-life, Jory sucks Ella’s energy and becomes stronger. After using the Ubik spray, Jory destroys the remaining cans. However, as the story concludes, she realizes that she needs the Ubik to survive which prompts her to travel back in time to recover the cans.
Pat Conley
Conley is inertial and possesses the power to change matter and return things to their original state. She also can alter the past. Pat and Runciter first meet after Joe introduces them. Joe also warns Runciter that she may be dangerous.
