Half-dead

Bill asserts, “ I’m perfectly fine but you look a little rough. Half dead if you want to know the truth. I don’t care if you are Elvis Presley or the President of the United States. I’m gonna call you an ambulance. Now how on earth do you suppose I do that?” (Act 1, Scene 1).The figurative ‘half-dead’ alludes to paleness which could be a pointer of ‘Elvis Presley’s’ (Jhana) indisposition.

King

Maddie observes, “We were always the noisy neighbours - for years. You can imagine living next door to someone like King” (Act 1, Scene2). The figurative King implies Jhana’s father elicits noisiness due to the nature of his endeavors, which principally entail emulating Presley Elvis. Loud singing would trigger disruption and noisiness.

“Dedicated Impersonator”

Maddie says, “I took Jhana up to Ottawa. He looked lousy, kind of overweight.” Bill replies “Elvis in his later years”(Act 1, Scene 1). King’s imitation of Elvis is meticulous. Bill’s remark implies that King emulates Elvis in all aspects including bodily form. Psychoanalytically, Elvis Presley is King’s outright Looking Glass self.
