Referring to the Elvis Presley family explicates the nature of Jhana’s association with her father. In the Prologue, Jhana’s father states, “friends and women-they come and go. They certainly have been marching away from me at a steady rate these days. But children…well it’s just a very precious thing to have a child. Ladies and gentlemen, my daughter, my little girl-Lisa Marie Presley. Stand up honey, don’t be scared.” Lisa Marie Presley is representative of Jhana. King adulates Jhana in the same way that the real Presley adored his daughter. King’s declaration affirms that his bond with his daughter is authentic unlike the bonds with other ‘friends and women’ which are qualified.
Maddie conditions Jhana classically when she makes her assert “I am mentally handicapped…Please help me find my way home!” (Act 1, Scene 1). The conditioning is envisioned to aid Jhana should her mental handicapping deter her from finding her way back home. Nonetheless, in Act 1, Scene 2, it is apparent that Jhana is not unequivocally incapacitated for she can recall particulars such her name (“Jhana Gladys Kelly”) and her phone number.
