Money Does Not Buy Happiness

Blessing lived in a luxurious house in Lagos with electricity, clean water, and heaters. She took those things for granted and lived in a happy home. However, she moved to her grandparents' house in the village after her parents broke up. In the beginning, she found it hard to cope and live without water and electricity. However, Blessing was not materialistic, and she started to find happiness in the little things in her life. For one, she started enjoying her grandma's stories at night. She enjoyed cooking and being a birth attendant with her grandmother although they were done at a poor place with poor care. In the end of the story, Blessing had the chance to start a new life and move to London with her parents, where there is technology, water, and a rich life. Surprisingly, she chose to stay in the village because she felt genuinely happy there. She felt at her true home.

Media

The power of media is clearly seen in the story in several scenes. The first one was when Ezikiel heard about the Sibeye boys and their goals from the radio. Although it is well known that these boys kill innocent people, the media was powerful enough to convince Ezikiel to join these boys because they are right, and they will rid Nigeria of the war. Another scene occurred when Grandma, Blessing, Celestine, and a group of other women led a protest in front of the Western Oil Company, naked. The media drew their attention to these women and eventually it caused the boys to free Dan.
