America is Broken
A main theme of this book is that America as a country is broken - unable to serve all its citizens in the same capacity. Warren explores this theme by discussing the main issues of America's current political scene:
-minimum wage
-climate change
-trickle-down economics
-poverty
The American People Are Receptive to Change
Throughout her book, Warren cites the American people’s readiness to accept change as a strength of the country as a whole. She lists a number of statistics about some divisive issues like welfare entitlements and climate change and concludes that the majority of the American people want positive action and changes regarding these issues.
Rebuttal Against the Election of Trump
Another important element of this book is the fact that it is a sort of rebuttal against Trump’s election. The book is often critical of the Trump administration’s policies such as its tax reform plan and the way it supported some unconventional appointments, such as that of Betsy DeVos to the role of Secretary of Education.
