"The Stolen Bacillus" and Other Stories Imagery

An anarchist

The Bacteriologist is suspicious about the visitor, and the visitor’s appearance adds to this sensation. “The lank black hair and deep grey eyes, the haggard expression, nervous manner and fitful interest” describe a person who has something in mind. The Bacteriologist understood almost at once who his visitor is and the goal of his visit, and ran after him across the whole city only to confirm his suspicions.

Tiresome scientifics

The Bacteriologist suspected his visitor because of one more reason: “his visitor was a novel change from the phlegmatic deliberations of the ordinary scientific worker with whom he chiefly associated”. The Bacteriologist gives an image of what a scientific worker is – a person showing little emotions, always calm and unimpressive.

Chasing

The chase that took place amused a group of cabmen and loafers who happened to watch it. The strange visitor in one cab chased by the bacteriologist in another one, and then Minnie in the third cab. This chain of cabs appeared very funny for the audience; the image is mostly created by the phrases and remarks of those spectators.
