The Room (2003 Film) Analysis

The room is a film about Johnny, a banker intending to marry his fiancé, Lisa. However, Lisa seems to be disinterested in their courtship. She secretly starts seeing Mark, Johnny’s friend, and confidant. Johnny is purportedly a prosperous banker. Therefore, Lisa’s mother pushes her to stay with him in San Francisco.

Johnny is also supporting a needy college student called Denny. Although Denny perceives Johnny as a fatherly figure, he is interested in Lisa. Johnny cares for Denny, and this is evidenced when an armed man confronts Denny. Johnny and Mark rescue Denny from the armed man.

Denny seems to be baffled by Johnny and Lisa’s lovemaking sessions. However, Johnny tells him to approach one of his classmates for dating. The hurdles of Johnny’s relationship stressed him. Thus, he calls for help from his friend Peter, who doubles as a psychologist. Peter confronts Mark for having an affair with Johnny’s girlfriend. Mark feels infuriated and starts attacking Peter. The confrontation does not last for long because the two seek a truce.

Johnny is having the party, and Mark is caught caressing Lisa. The two seem unbothered by the occurrence of events. Lisa also lies to Johnny about her pregnancy. Eventually, Lisa says she is in love with Mark. In response, Johnny attacks her. The attack gives Lisa an excellent reason to end the relationship. Eventually, Johnny is overwhelmed by the turn of events and chooses to commit suicide. His friends are hurt, and Mark rebukes Lisa. The film shows the strength of love and how it can have an impact on people’s lives.
