Boys
The opening scene is a group of boys standing around looking at nude photographs of women. This imagery places us immediately in the age range and context of the children we will be journeying through the story in. They aren't old enough to truly know what they are looking at, but not young enough to know nothing.
Daniel
We see Daniel step onto his desk after everyone leaves the classroom and begin to flap his arms like wings. This imagery shows us that deep down within him he believes he can fly regardless of whether anyone is there to support him or not.
Man of the Year
We hear that Daniel has become Time Magazine's Man of the Year, and won several medals for his flying including lifetime achievement awards. These notable feats create the imagery of the tangible, real life hero that Daniel has become. No longer a hope or dream, but fact.
Hutch's Cliff
Daniel leaps off Hutch's Cliff for the first time as a 12 year old boy. Everyone believes he will fall to his death but all the children begin to see him flying. Though we don't see it, the kids seeing it creates the imagery of magic as Daniel soars through our imaginations.
