    K/W/L Chart

    Kind of Activity:

    Classwide Discussion

    Objective:

    Establish what students know and want to know about Robert Frost and his poetry.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.9

    Structure:

    Ask students to set up a chart in their notebooks with three columns: one labeled "K" for Know, one labeled "W" for Want to Know, and one labeled "L" for Learned.

    Have students take a few minutes to fill in the "K" and "W" sections on their own. For "K," students should list all of their prior knowledge about Robert Frost and his poetry. There can also be a second round about Henry David Thoreau and Walden, since this class period will include exploration of excerpts...
