Hawkin
Hawkin is the book's protagonist, and he lives with his parents, who are always complaining about money and other strange conversations that he doesn't understand. Hawkin witnesses a strange figure invading their home and attacking his parents, but he is scared and cannot shout to warn them.
Hawkin’s father
Hawkin's father is a disturbed man after losing his job. His wife is always quarreling with him because he is broke. Hawkin does not understand why his parents are always fighting.
Hawkin’s mother
Hawkin’s mother is an employee at a Fleet Farm. She is always not on good terms with her husband because she sees him useless. She smokes cigarettes and more often mishandles Hawkin. She is also an usher at a Lutheran Church, where she serves as an usher. Besides ushering, Hawkin's mother loves reading the Bible and other readings on Buddhism and Judaism.
Mrs. B
Mrs. B. is Hawkins teacher, and she teaches about the historical meteors and their occurrence.
Gunderson Family
Gunderson's family owns the land with a lakefront property that Hawkin's father is thinking of selling to recover his financial status. However, the only section that can attract good value is the lake waterfront section.
The Stranger Figure
The Strange Figure is the individual that comes silently to attack Hawkin's parents. When Hawkin sees a strange figure approaching their house, he becomes scared and fears to shout to warn his parents of the approaching danger. The Strange Man shoots Hawkin's parents.
Stacy
Stacy is the daughter of Oliver and Betsy. She visits her parents once in a while, and she realizes that their house is changing rapidly. For instance, the paint in the kitchen is fading, and the garden decorations are fading.
Oliver Toal (Stacy’s Father)
Oliver is the father of Stacy, and the author describes him as a man who has seen many things on earth. Similarly, Oliver has seen worse times, including business failures.
Betsy (Oliver’s Wife)
Betsy is Oliver’s wife and Stacy’s mother. She looks like Stacy, and she is fond of wearing blue jeans and a silver cap.
