Letters from the Circus

Kind of Activity:

Creative Writing

Objective:

To imagine what the characters are thinking and feeling

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.3.D

Structure:

Write a 2 page letter from either Widget or Poppet to Bailey after Bailey does not show up before the circus leaves town. Make sure to think about what their voice would sound like, what they’d care about, and how they would express it.

Ideas for Differentiated Instruction:

For more of a challenge, students may write their letter, then write a reply letter from Bailey to Widget or Poppet while he’s en route from Concord to New York.
