The Naga's Journey Summary

The Naga's Journey Summary

The Naga’s Journey is a book that involves three main characters from the streets of Bangkok, Thailand. The three characters are from different backgrounds. Arun is an artist who is fighting off inner demons. He is self-centered and egoistic. Don has been involved in a road accident where he has killed a child. He has been acquitted for any wrongdoing by a corrupt law enforcement officer. As a result, he has decided to change his life for good by becoming a monk. After five years, Don leaves monkhood once he experiences a scary vision. He starts working as a social worker to help less fortunate in society. Marisa is a film star. Her advanced age is making her lose interest in her career.

The three characters meet at the burial of pi O, a former policeman who had ventured into the entertainment industry prior to his death. Pi O used to run a massage parlor before he passed on. Don, Arun, and Marisa came to bury him because each of them had a link with him. Marisa was introduced to her career by pi O. pi O was Arun’s uncle. Don attended the burial because pi O helped him escape prosecution after he committed an offense. The three characters develop a strong bond. The society in which the three characters live is corrupt. Most of the influential like pi O have no morals. Prostitution is the order of the day.

Finally, the destructive floods sweep across the city leading to many deaths. People believe that Naga, a mythical water spirit, is punishing the population due to wrongful deeds conducted within that society. However, the three characters remain together, even as these floods are sweeping the city. Don, Arun, and Marisa know that they can’t run away from their past.
