Why does Mickey Haller decide to tell the authorities about Louis Roulet?
Initially, Mickey Haller decides to represent Louis Roulet because he thinks that he did not commit the murder that he was accused of. However, Mickey quickly determines that Roulet did, in fact, commit the murder - and perhaps other murders as well.
Although he is bound by attorney-client confidentiality, Haller finds a way to tell the authorities about Roulet's murders in a way that also allows one of his former clients, Jesus Menendez, to be released from jail and cleared of all of his charges. Menendez was charged with a murder that was shockingly similar to the murder that Roulet was charged for.

Which kind of clients does Mickey Haller normally work with?
Typically, Mickey Haller works with drug dealers, gangsters, and hardcore criminals who don't have much to lose. People who aren't looked at too kindly by society. That's why Mickey's work with Louis Roulet is so interesting. He rarely, if ever, works with someone who is so wealthy and held in such high regard by society as a whole.
