The Lincoln Lawyer Characters

The Lincoln Lawyer Character List

Mickey Haller

Based in Los Angeles, Mickey Haller is a criminal defense attorney. To practice law, Haller drives around in a Lincoln town car which is generally driven by one of his clients working off their law debt. Haller is an incredibly intelligent man with an unmatched moral compass. In the novel, for example, Haller ensures that one of his clients, a real estate agent called Louis Roulet, is convicted of murder after discovering that he may be a serial killer. He does this to ensure another one of his clients called Jesus Menendez has all charges dropped against him for a murder which he did not commit.

In the novel, Haller also learns a lot about the law and quite a bit about himself and who he is as a human being.

Louis Roulet

Louis Roulet is the sadistic Los Angeles-based real estate agent who has been accused of murder. Initially, Mickey Haller, his defense attorney, believes Roulet's story that he did not commit the murder. However, Haller and his investigator determine that Roulet did murder the person he was accused of killing. Not only that, Haller theorizes that Roulet may be a serial killer who killed a number of people because one of his former clients was convicted of a murder under very similar circumstances.

Ted Minton

Ted Minton is the bulldog prosecutor in Louis Roulet case who Mickey Haller spars with. Initially, Haller works against Minton to ensure his client is acquitted. However, Haller eventually works in Minton's interests by subversively implicating his client in the murder.

Margaret McPherson

Margaret McPherson is Mickey Haller's kind and doting ex-wife who happens to be one of the prosecuting attorneys on the Louis Roulet case. Haller works with her not only to raise their child; he works with her to deal with the Louis Roulet case.
