The Last Black Unicorn Background

The Last Black Unicorn Background

The Last Black Unicorn is an autobiographical book written by stand-up comedian, actress, and author Tiffany Haddish published on 5th December 2017. In 2017, she had her breakout role in the film Girls Trip which escalated her comedic and film career in the subsequent years. The book covers this rise to fame and success but also starts with her childhood and struggles as a stand-up comic. As a comedian, Haddish charts where it all started since comedy was her means of coping and surviving from a young age.

In her memoir, she addresses her experience in the foster care system where she was bullied and also found her passion for comedy. At the age of 17, she was offered a choice to either attend psychiatric counseling or the Laugh Factory comedy camp and chose the latter. The subsequent essays delve into her struggles breaking into the entertainment business and finally handling her newfound fame. Haddish recounts interactions with family, partners, or random people that shaped her worldview or made for good humor.

The book is filled with personal stories that reflect on her upbringing, be it moments of hilarity or poignancy that made her who she is. Bustle wrote, β€œThe Last Black Unicorn is a hilarious and observant collection of personal essays, filled with truly jaw-dropping twists and turns on Haddish's road to breakout stardom.”
