Why would seeing cornflakes make Arthur feel safe?
Arthur is completely out of his element. It was bad enough when he simply thought his house was going to be bulldozed, but then he learned his friend was an alien, the earth itself got blown up, and now he's on a spaceship with unfriendly hosts. Cornflakes are a small, simple thing that would remind him of home, that would make him feel normal. This is similar to a child who has a blanket or a favorite toy; it's something to comfort them. What would students like to see if they were in Arthur's situation?
