    How do you respond to Paul's rules for treating inmates? Do his methods strike you as kind and humane? Are they a just treatment for convicted murderers?

    This question gets at the heart of The Green Mile, particularly in relation to Paul's maturity. Some students may agree with Paul that inmates deserve kindness, within limits. Others may be disgusted that people who did such horrible things are treated this way. Through these discussions, students will be prepared to follow Paul's moral development.
