The Fly (1986 Film) Character List

Seth Brundle

Seth Brundle is the main character, protagonist, and antagonist of the movie. He invents telepods, which are used to transport non-living things from one place to another. Inspired by his love, Veronica, he creates an updated version of the telepods in order to transport living things. One day, while alone, he tries it out himself. Not knowing that a fly had sneaked in the capsule with him, he transports seemingly successfully. However, he starts evolving into a fly, but tries to stop it from happening. In this way, he is a protagonist while being an antagonist in the movie.

Veronica Quaife

Veronica is a science reporter that falls in love with Seth Brundle. She has a verbal contract with Seth that she will have exclusive rights to the story of the telepods if she releases it when Seth wants her to. The two start having a serious relationship, but a fight makes them leave. When she comes back, however, Seth has started acting strange. He has a lot of energy, and ends up with prickly hairs on his back and an obsession with the telepods. Veronica knows something is wrong, and eventually figures out that Seth is turning into an insect. She later finds out that she is pregnant with Seth's child, and dreams that it is a maggot. Wanting to perform an abortion, Seth stops her, and goes back to his lab. Veronica's editor, Stathis Borans, with whom she had a previous relationship, brings a shotgun to Seth's home and tries to kill him. Veronica comes, and ends up shooting Seth, as he is simply too far gone.

Stathis Borans

Stathis is the former boyfriend of Veronica, as well as being her editor at where she works. He is a jealous man throughout the movie, mad that Seth has taken Veronica away from him, and he threatens Veronica with publishing the telepod story early. Jumping to the end of the movie, Veronica comes to him, saying she must have an abortion, and he finds out that Seth is turning into a fly. Bringing a shotgun, he goes to Seth's house, using it to free Veronica, who was forced into a telepod by Seth, and giving it to her to shoot Seth.

Tawny

A static character, Tawny was brought home by Seth from a bar both to make Veronica jealous and to persuade her to go into the telepod. However, Veronica rescues her before Seth can force her into one.

Dr. Cheevers

Only shown in one scene of the movie, Dr. Cheevers is the doctor that was going to perform Veronica's abortion before Seth shut down the idea.
