Released in 1986 and directed by David Cronenberg, The Fly raked in $60.6 million dollars at the box office. Bearing the same name as a 1958 film, this movie is in the genre of science-fiction horror. The plot revolving around a mad scientist that wants to impregnate a woman with a creature with mixed human/fly DNA. The film actually received high ratings, garnering one Academy Award and multiple Saturn Awards. Distributed by 20th Century Fox, the movie was based on a 1957 short story written by George Langelaan.

Born in 1943, David Cronenberg has been an actor, director, and screenwriter. Born and working in Canada, he is best known for revitalizing the genre of "body horror" which revolves around a human-like creature that is badly malformed or looks like another creature. The son of a musician and a writer, Cronenberg was introduced the fine arts at a young age. The tenth film that he has directed in his directing career, The Fly was one of his best known films, but not as popular as his 1996 Crash.
