    Shifting Perspectives

    Kind of Activity:

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will be able to understand the importance of narrative perspective and reliability in storytelling.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.R.6 ; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.3

    Structure:

    Ask students how they think their reading of the story is affected by its first-person narration. What might Hazel be leaving out, or what might color her telling of the events of the novel? Ask them to think of other novels with first-person narration and how they related to the narrator and his/her storytelling style.
