The Dong
The Dong is the central character in the novel. The Dong is lonesome because he has no wife, children or friends. The Dong's primary goal is to look for a friend to keep him company. One day, the Dong gets out looking for a friend. While searching for a friend, the Dong comes across different outlandish creatures.
The first person who accepts to be the Dong's friend is the Quangle Wangle. Wangle invites the Dong to a party where he meets other potential friends, including Jumblie. Later in the day, the Dong returns home and he feels lonely again.
Quangle Wangle
Quangle Wangle is an outgoing creature ready to mingle with anyone he encounters. Wangle loves attending parties and inviting friends to accompany him. Unlike the Dong, Wangle is friendly, talkative, and full of life.
Pobble
Pobble is a strange creature with no toes. However, Pobble is a friendly and loving creature ready to teach the Dong about the new environments. Pobble loves dancing, singing, and visiting new places.
Jumblie
Jumblie is an interesting female character who teaches the Dong how to dance. The Dong falls in love with Jumblie but does not know how to express himself and confess that he loves her. Throughout their interaction, Jumblie does not know that the Dong is sexually attracted to her.
Blue Baboon
The Blue Baboon is a creature living in the same neighborhood as the Dong. The Blue Baboon has always wanted to befriend the Dong. After the Dong returns from his adventures, he retreats to Jumbly Bay, where he meets the Blue Baboon. The Blue Baboon confesses that he has always wanted to be the Dong's friend. In a happy conclusion, the Dong and the Blue Baboon form a formidable friendship.
