    Group Work

    Objective:

    To evaluate an author's use of language in a figurative text

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.R.4

    Structure:

    Students should work in groups of 3-5. Each group should choose (or be assigned) a scene from the reading. Encourage students to choose "meaty" scenes with plenty of action and dialogue, as well as multiple characters. Each group's task is to prepare to bring their scene to life, staying faithful to the text. They must analyze Dumas' language and use it as evidence to make decisions like:

    • What is the overall mood of this scene?
