    How does the Count of Monte Cristo choose his servants? What kind of relationship does he have with them?

    Monte Cristo appears to be a fair, if demanding, master. His servants seem completely devoted to him – which is no surprise, because he has saved most of them from terrible situations (death, slavery, prison). Monte Cristo seems to favor servants with no family connections, which also fosters this complete dependency and devotion. Finally, at least some of Monte Cristo’s servants are connected with his enemies – it seems he has used them to gain valuable information for his revenge plots.
