    Getting Some Perspective

    Kind of Activity:

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    To understand the relationship between a story's narrative point of view and its emotional content

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.3; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.5

    Structure:

    Each member of the class should work individually. Students should write a short essay from the perspective of Jenni Munoz detailing the events leading up to Oscar's suicide attempt, what she believed was going on and how she felt about Oscar's actions.

    After they have had time to write, have students exchange papers in order to review and comment on one another's work. Encourage them to dialogue about...
