Chapter 3 - Cells: The Living Units - Review Questions - Page 114: 18

Answer

(d) a and b

Work Step by Step

Nerve cells and lymphocytes are different types of cells, specialized for different functions. Therefore they will differ in their specialized structures and their embryonic histories. In order to ensure they have the correct specialized structures and carry out the correct functions, they will have certain genes that are active, and others that are suppressed. Otherwise, all cells in the body would be the same. Although many genes may be suppressed, each of these cells will have the same overall genetic code, because this genetic information is carried in full by every cell in an organism.
