Taste buds are found mostly on the soft palate and on the anterior and on the posterior surfaces of the tongue. However there are taste buds many other surfaces of the oral cavity and oropharynx.

A few taste buds are found on the soft palate, but more are found in papillae on the anterior upper surface of the tongue ( fungiform papillae); on the posterolateral tongue surfaces (foliate papillae and on the postero-superior surface of the tongue (vallate papillae). There are taste bus in other places also. Taste buds are found on the inner surfaces of the cheeks, on the surfaces of the lower pharynx, and on the epiglottis.
