When a lot of fat is burned to produce ATP, fat oxidation is fast but incomplete which form some intermediate products, such as acetoacetic acid (two acetic acids linked together) and acetone, which accumulate in the blood. These makes the blood acidic. This condition is called acidosis or ketoacidosis. It can be caused due to starvation or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.
