Chapter 6 - Systems of Equations and Inequalities - Concept Byte - Page 370: 3

Answer

The lines intersect at (2,-4), so this point is the solution of the system.

Work Step by Step

The first step of this problem is graphing both equations in a graphing calculator. This can be done by selecting y= and entering in both $ y=-5x+6 $ and $y=-x-2 $. Once the graph has been completed, the calc function is used. This is found by entering 2nd + TRACE. The next function used is intersect, which will allow the calculator to determine where these two graphs intersect. Once the intersect function is active, select one point on either graph and the calculator will determine where the intersection is.
