Talk to Her Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Desperate Women

Marco sees Lydia on a talk show and knows she is a desperate woman from the way she reacts to the host's questions. Her desperation to him is a symbol of a hot story. One that he wants to write for the Sunday paper and it's the reason he begins a relationship with her.

Scar

As Lydia puts on her Traje de luces (suit of lights) we see that she has a scar on her stomach. The scar is a symbol of the grave danger she takes every time she steps into a ring with a bull. This scar is also shown just before she is run over by a bull and put into a coma while in the ring.

Cafe Muller

Marco sees a signed photograph from a dance production he saw called, Cafe Muller hanging on Alicia's wall. It was put there by Benigno and is a symbol of the connected-ness that Marco and he share as they sat next to each other at the performance before they ever knew one another.

It Rained All Week

Benigno is waiting for Alicia to come back to the dance studio across the street from his apartment, but doesn't see her come. It pours down rain all week until he finds out that she is in a coma. The rain symbolizes Alicia's demise and Benigno's turmoil in having to wait to find out what has happened to her.

Marco's Tears

Marco cries whenever he is moved by something beautiful. It has a deeper meaning in that his tears flow because he is unable to share the moment with someone he loves as he has been separated from his love for some time now. And the thought of never being able to tell her of these things destroys him.
