Stray: The Shifters Book 1 Background

Stray: The Shifters Book 1 Background

Stray is an urban fantasy book written in 2007 by Rachel Vincent. The book is the first in her Shifter’s series. The book was written at a time when paranormal fantasy books relating to mythical creatures, such as werewolves and vampires, became popular, hence why it became such a hit in the new/young adult genre.

The story revolves around the life of a young werecat, Faith, as she is brought back into the world of shifters – humans that can shape shift into animals. She is pursued by her ex-boyfriend, Marc, to reunite with her family, the Pride, so that she can prepare to one day take over the role of the Alpha. However, along the way, Faythe develops feelings for a close friend, Jace, resulting in a conflict in her feelings for Marc.

The storyline received mixed reviews from readers on the book review site, Goodreads, averaging at a score of 3.78/5. The book is succeeded by Rogue, where Faythe’s relationship with her parents and Marc is put to the test once again.
