Hsu and his friends are now in their junior year at Berkeley. Hsu and Anthony have moved into a one-bedroom condo together a little further from campus. Sean and Paraag also live in the same building.
Hsu begins to volunteer at the Richmond Youth Project where he acts as a mentor and tutor to mostly Southeast Asian middle schoolers. He reflects that their situation, having fled war in Southeast Asia, was much different from his own middle-class upbringing. He still finds the sweeping term 'Asian American' useful in some ways, as it comes from a collective struggle.
