Stardust Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The Wall

The wall is symbolic in it that it separates the town Wall from the world of Faerie. The wall separates the two worlds, the supernatural and the ordinary. Tristran is a character that is able to walk through both worlds. He could be seen as a meeting point of the two worlds, a possibility of connection.

Clothing

Tristran’s clothing is a symbolic representation of his change of character and growth. As he grows and becomes more confident and bolder, his clothing changes as well, from a shabby overcoat to a confident crimson attire.

The unicorn

The unicorn is what connects Yvaine and Tristran. It is saved from cruelty by Yvaine and reflects her. Unicorns are usually perceived as innocent and pure creatures, just like the character of Yvaine.

Yvaine’s heart

Yvaine’s heart is symbolic as it is targeted by the evil of Stormhold, for its value and power. Tristran goes to retrieve the fallen star, Yvaine, for Victoria’s heart, but discovers that the star has a heart of its own, which, in turn, teaches him to find his heart.
