Star Wars: The Force Awakens Characters

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character List

Han Solo

Han Solo is played by veteran actor Harrison Ford. Han is the protagonist of the film and is brash and intelligent former general of the Rebel Alliance. He is very sarcastic, loyal (especially to his loyal sidekick, a wookie called Chewbacca), but has turned into a bit of an old curmudgeon and has returned to smuggling. On the surface, it seems one of Han's only driving forces is the desire to make a lot of money in business; however, the audience later discovers that Han is regretful for how his son, Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) turned out and how much he wants to correct the situation. At his core, he is a good man in a bad situation and would do anything to fix it.

Rey

Rey is played by newcomer Daisy Ridley. Rey is a young, scrappy, somewhat naive, and intelligent scavenger who has been waiting for her parents to return to Jakuu (where she lives) for most of her life. At first, she is lonely -- but she still dreams of grand thoughts and ideas -- but after she crosses paths with BB8 and former stormtrooper Finn, she isn't lonely anymore and begins a journey. Along with Han, she is the co-protagonist of the story. She also represents the moral core of the film.

Kylo Ren (Ben Solo)

Adam Driver is Kylo Ren (real name: Ben Solo). He is the immediate, main antagonist of the film. He acts like a petulant child, destroying things when he doesn't get his way and whining incessantly (he is a very emotional person). He hates his father Han Solo but still has a little bit of respect and admiration for his mother, Leia. He is Luke's uncle, Leia and Han's son, and Darth Vader's grandson (for whom he has deep admiration).

BB-8

BB-8 is the rambunctious yet fiercely smart and loyal robot.

Luke Skywalker

Mark Hamill plays Luke Skywalker. Although he's only on screen for a minute or so, he is a bit of a recluse and kind of a curmudgeon.

Princess (and General) Leia Organa

Carrie Fisher is Leia Organa. She is compassionate, loving, and fiercely intelligent. She is a brilliant tactician and strategist. She is reserved and tired; she is also not as optimistic. However, she is still a good, driving force in the film.
