What is Kendi’s argument in Stamped from the Beginning? What problem(s) is he trying to address?
Kendi’s argument is that racist ideas do not stem from ignorance and hate. Instead racist ideas come from discriminatory policies. This is why much of the book is about tracing discriminatory policies and the ideas connected to them. Kendi argues that he can prove a causal relationship between discriminatory policies and racist ideas. Kendi is trying to address several problems including the impact of anti-Black racism on Black people and the idea that the United States is in a post-racial era.
