Carrie does not see Ames again, but still holds him up as an ideal, even as Hurstwood grows more depressed about his situation. He finally admits his business situation to Carrie, his lack of growing profits and troubles with his partner. He convinces Carrie to move with him to a smaller apartment, which separates her from the Vances and increases her disappointment.
