Siege and Storm Summary

Siege and Storm is book two of the Grisha trilogy. The book picks up where the first trilogy, Shadow and Bone, stops. Alina and Mal are in Cofton city in Novyi Zem. The two are away from their home country of Ravka for their safety. They fear being tracked by Darkling who wants to use Alina’s magical power to control the world. Alina is struggling because she can’t use her power freely. The romantic bond between Mal and Alina increases. In the city of Cofton, they have rented a house where they return to rest after a long day of work.

One evening, they return to the house only to find Darkling and his soldiers waiting for them. Darkling stuns them when he thanks Alina for awarding him a rare present. The present is the power to make deadly creatures from the darkness. The creatures are called nichevo’ya. Darkling manages to overpower Mal and Alina and puts them on a ship owned by Sturmhold. Sturmhold is kind and saves the two from the wrath of Darkling. Mal and Alina return to Ravka. Darkling is still pursuing them with his soldiers.

Darkling captures Alina’s friends and demands her powers to free them. After a long negotiation, Alina decides to give up her power to Darkling. However, the blending of their powers never gives Darkling what he wants. Alina is weak and Mal takes her away to escape. Alina wakes up in a tunnel being surrounded by people who adore and worship her.
