How to Live in the Slum

Creative Writing
Objective:
To examine slum life and think about what Lin has learned about survival there
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.5
Structure:
Instruct students to imagine they are Lin and are writing a guidebook to successful living in the slum. Each student should create a guide, whether using PowerPoint, crafting something out of paper by hand, or formatting a printable pamphlet in a word processing program. What instructions would they give for surviving daily life in the slum? What are the unspoken (or spoken) rules there? Are there important mindsets to approach life...
