Part II Chapters 4-6
The novel introduces a new set of characters: Sufiya Zinobia Hyder, and her parents General Raza Hyder and Bilquis Hyder. When Bilquis Hyder was young, her father was killed in a bombing of a cinema whose owner had shown films considered by some to be sacrilegious. After, she walked through the streets of town naked, her own clothes burning off her. The narrator then offers a quick view of the rest of her life: she marries Raza Hyder and becomes paranoid in her old age. The narrator then reflects on how, if this were a realist novel, he would instead write about his sister, whose life is quite representative...
