"I wear the chain I forged in life! I made it link by link and yard by yard! I gartered it on of my own free will and by my own free will, I wore it!"

Jacob Marley

Marley has come back to show Ebenezer the chains he now wears in the afterlife from having created them in the poor way he lived in life. It is a clear warning to Scrooge that his bitterness and cruelty to people in order to make profit rather than relationship is a path that will lead him to death beyond his years on the earth.

"They are Man's. This boy is Ignorance, this girl is Want. Beware them both, but most of all, beware this boy!"

Spirit of Christmas Present

The Spirit shows Scrooge the reality of the poor in life and that there has always been ignorance and want, but of the two one must beware ignorance above all. These are Man's creation and their burden.

"Well, my friend, I'm not going to beat around the bush. I'm simply not going to stand this sort of thing any longer. Which leaves me no choice, but to raise your salary."

Scrooge

Ebenezer says this to Cratchit who thinks the old man is going to fire him, when in fact he's been transformed by his experience with the Spirits over the course of the night. He's no longer the unforgiving and cruel man he once was. He's been transformed by the evening he's had with visits from the three Ghosts.
