Oscar Wilde was born 1854 to highly educated parents in Dublin, Ireland. His father was a doctor, surgeon, and author, and his mother was a poet, and Wilde continued in the tradition of higher intellectual pursuits, receiving scholarships to Trinity and Magdalen Colleges and graduating with honors from both institutions. In 1884, he married Constance Lloyd, and the couple had two children. Wilde gained prominence as a writer and editor.
