    Why do you think the Lovers are part of the play?

    Firstly, they add dimensionality to the play: even in the face of blind worship of a leader, something else is always happening. Secondly, the fact that they are eventually as focused on the Leader as the two Admirers are indicates the power of the image of the Leader, in spite of the fact that he has no head. The Lovers show that the Leader's presence impacts everyone.
