What is your first impression of Berenger?
Many students will probably agree with Jean's criticisms: Berenger seems sloppy and whiny, and very attached to his alcoholism and resulting behaviors. However, some students may note that he is very thoughtful, that he thinks his friendship with Jean is very important, and that he seems to have true and tender feelings for Daisy. Others may note that he seems to have low self-esteem and is somewhat self-defeating.
