    Banned Book Debate Video

    Kind of Activity:

    Technology

    Objective:

    Students will be able to analyze the merits and weaknesses of books that have been banned in the United States and improve their persuasive writing and speaking skills.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.5

    Structure:

    In this activity, students will work in pairs to create a video that illustrates a debate about whether a certain book should have been banned.

    On the first day, start the activity with a short discussion about banned books. You might use the following questions:

    -Why do you think the Iranian government bans books?

    -What are the benefits of banning books?

    -What might be the harm...
