Written by author Richard Wagamese, Ragged Company (published in 2008) tell a story of four people named Amelia, Timber, Double Dick, and Digger. The four are almost always homeless. One day, however, they decide to go into a warm movie theater to escape a very violent and harsh Arctic Front which is encroaching on the city. Soon enough they start to love the life of warmth and human encounters in the movie theater so they decide to keep going to the movie theater.
On one of their many visits, they find a cigarette case with some money and most importantly, a lottery ticket worth over 10 million dollars. Because their identities are bad, they enlist the help of a lonely journalist named Granite, who they ask to cash the ticket for them. However, things don't go as well as they had hoped, and their lives are changed forever.
When it was released, Ragged Company received almost universally positive reviews. One reviewer loved the book, writing that the book has"exceptional writer and beautiful character development" Another review said that the book was"hard-hitting and well written.
