Molly
Molly is the main character and protagonist of the story, and lives in 1930's Australia. At the time, she is only fourteen years old, with a younger sister named Daisy. She and Daisy are the daughters of a parent that was Native Australian and another that was simply white. Because of this, they are segregated in society and forced to relocate.
One day, A.O. Neville comes to Jigalong, where the girls live, and tell them that they must be relocated to a Moore River Valley internment camp because of their ethnicity. The girls do not want to go, but are forced to by Neville, who they refer to as "Mr. Devil". Molly is the one who influences herself, Daisy, and another girl named Gracie to leave the camp and go back home.
Daisy
Daisy is one of the main character of the film, and also a protagonist. Her older sister, Molly, does most of the planning, but keep in mind that Daisy is only eight years old. Daisy and Molly eventually escape the internment camp where they are located, and safely get home.
Mr. Neville
Mr. Neville is the main antagonist of the film, as he is the one who is racist towards the children and pays them no respect whatsoever. Neville comes to the town and informs Molly and Daisy that they must come to an internment camp simply because of their race. Lying, he says the camp will teach them to become skilled in a career path.
Mr. Neville clearly has no regard for the girls' welfare, and simply doesn't want to get reprimanded by law enforcement. When the girls do escape, a rigorous search routine is initiated by him. However, he decides to call it quits when the girls do not show up in a decent amount of time.
